View over Helman Tor early on a winter's morning. The 686 ft (209 m) high tor is located between Bodmin and St Austell, and whilst being much like those on Bodmin Moor it is actually separate.

The Tor is managed by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and run as Helman Tor Nature Reserve . Combined with the adjoining wetlands of Red Moor Site of Special Scientific Interest and Breney Common Special Area of Conservation the area totals in excess of 500 acres.

Set on the Saint's Way, Helman Tor has prehistoric significance too. Once a hill fort there are also the remains of a stone hut circle settlement on the site with some constructions dating back as much as 6,000 years.
