This was filmed at St Ives' Porthmeor beach the day after one of the huge winter storms of 2014. 

Whilst Porthmeor does face into the Atlantic Ocean it is fairly sheltered compared to most of the beaches on Cornwall's north coast. This particular morning there was still a big swell running although most of it wasn't getting into Porthmeor. Every now and again a set of waves big enough to dissuade anyone from going in for a surf would pile through.
