Looking down over Mousehole Harbour on a sunny early Spring morning.

This view might lend credence to one of the several theories as to where Mousehole gets its name. The original harbour was even smaller and may have been referred to as the mouse hole. Alternatively the narrow entrance to the harbour may have been the source of the name. Whatever the case it is definitely not pronounced "mouse hole", it is "mowzel"!

There's a number of reasons you can tell it isn't summer; the trees are bare, the water isn't as bright blue, there aren't hundreds of people milling around and the harbour gate is up. These huge planks of wood seal the harbour off from the winter waves making it a safe haven when the storms come.
