Hayle Millpond

The millpond in Hayle is located at the Foundry end of the town which, 150 years ago, was a centre of industry. The foundry served the local mines and port, but grew to become one of the world's leading suppliers of industrial pumping engines.

The Millpond was attached to one of the associated industries that sprung up around the foundry. The water system was used to drive a grist mill grinding corn to feed the army of horses used by the foundry to transport goods over land. It is the ruins of this mill along with a ropery that you see in this photo.

The site behind the walls has now been converted into a community garden.
