I've taken more than a few photos of the Crowns engine houses in Botallack over the years - as have an ever increasing number of others. I've been out here at sunset, on howling westerly storms and early summer afternoons. But each time there is something different to capture, so I keep going back.
Already well known amongst Cornish mines, the Crowns has had something of a boost in profile over recent years as it has featured in the immensely popular Poldark series. Along with one of Botallack's other engine houses, Wheal Owles, the crowns were used to film Wheal Leisure and Grambler.
On the downside this means there are few days when I can have this amazing place to myself these days, but hey ho...
