The Cintra was one of 4 ships wrecked in St Ives Bay during a tremendous storm on November 18th 1893. She was on her way from Newport to Dartmouth carrying a cargo of coal.
Of the 12 crew on board the Cintra only 5 were rescued. This was by Breeches buoy from Carbis Bay beach. One sailor held onto the rigging for nearly an hour before jumping into the sea.
The anchor was recovered from the seabed in May 1959.
