A closer look at the castle that sits atop St Michael's Mount. This is the westerly side of the building, which is part castle, part monastery and part family home.
You can tell just by looking that the design of the "castle" was never really planned and has just been added to over the centuries with various barely matching extensions in all directions. That said, the result is better than could ever have been planned and helps add to the fairy-tale appeal of the Mount.
