First things first: the name. According to local legend, the pub got its name centuries ago when the landlord pulled a bucket from the well, and it didn’t contain water… The body of a murdered smuggler had been dumped down the well, giving the inn its name and a pretty gruesome legend.
Next: the pub today. Under new management, the old pub in Phillack outside Hayle serves good food and a wide choice of drinks. Try the Bucket Burger or the fish, which is sourced from Newlyn.
Choose from the cosy interior or the (often) sunny beer terrace. The landlord’s a musician, so expect plenty of good music nights at the Bucket.
