Cornwall's annual Open Studios event lets visitors enter into workshops and painting rooms which are usually the sole and private domain of their artist owners. It provides a unique way in which to explore how artworks are created, whether that's by adding oil paints to canvas, shaping sculptures large and small, blowing white hot glass into elegant vases or throwing clay onto a potter's wheel.
With the artists normally in residence at the time too, the Open Studios event gives you the chance to discuss works directly with those who have created them, and perhaps even discover a new artist to love and share with friends. Since the artists that get involved change every year, it's a brilliant way to discover new talent, reconnect with known artists, or simply snoop around studios normally entirely closed off to the public realm.
Spanning across more than a week, close to 300 artists get involved in the scheme each year, covering the four corners of Cornwall, including some of the top tourist destinations in the county. What's more, the studios are entirely free to visit.
