Looking up Turnpike Hill which is essentially an continuation of Fore Street which runs through the centre of the village. Not that many years ago this used to be the main road between Penzance and Helston, and it wasn't a pretty site during the summer!
The road's popularity/necessity weren't missed in the olden days either when this was a toll road. At the top of the hill there is still a diminutive little building known as Turnpike Cottage, which would have been the toll house. Today, most of the cottages are holiday rentals.
