Sancreed Well

Sancreed well lies just west of the village. The actual well is thought to go back beyond christianity although the site is dedicated to the celtic St Credan. He is said to have been a follower of St Petroc and possibly the founder of a local religious community.

Whatever the origins of the well it still draws believers; the tree next to the well is adorned with small strips of cloth known as 'clouties'. This pagan tradition states that a sick person who hangs a cloutie and takes water from the well will return to health as the cloth rots away.
