Gannel Estuary at low tide

Looking up the Gannel Estuary that runs along the edge of Newquay. In the old days this river was navigable by ship up as far as Trevemper Bridge. These days the river is silted up and you'll just about be able to get a canoe up there. Here, at the estuary mouth the river blends into Crantock beach from where you can walk along the sands of the estuary. Further up the Gannel becomes a haven for wildlife such as wading birds and any number of fish species.
