Fish Street - St ives

Bursting with historic charm, Fish Street is very much the typical Down-a-long street that St Ives is known for. The name is a clue to what this little thoroughfare was all about originally. Although you wouldn't know from this photo, the harbour is just beyond the white building (The Sloop Inn) at the end of the road. In fact, the street probably got dibs on the name as the reputedly oldest house in St Ives is situated at the bottom left of the shot.

Today the only fish action taking place on Fish Street is at the Mermaid restaurant. And you won't be seeing many fishermen in the cottages - these are all holiday lets now. The fishermen moved out of the Down-a-long many years ago, but a few boats do still operate from the harbour.
